nursery chic for little ones

Posted by Hattie | 22 Apr 2016

Much like 21st birthday parties and weddings, the arrival of a new baby heralds huge excitement as well as the tiniest amount of gift induced panic - what to buy the little darling and how much to spend?  All tricky territory and a question to which there really isn't a definitive answer, sorry!  There will be various factors to take into consideration such as are you related to said baby or have you been made a god-parent?  If the answer is yes, you will probably be pushing the boat out on a christening present and that's a whole separate subject, but if like me you find yourself constantly nipping out to buy a small token for a good friends new born bundle, I hope you'll find the following ideas useful:

This little rabbit night light is a very pocket friendly £4.95 and makes a sweet addition to any nursery

Willa and the Bear's felt garlands (£14.95) make great pressies and are available in either pastel or bright colour ways and look great strung like a bunting across a nursery wall or wound along a curtain pole

There are few sweeter things in this world than tiny shoes and I happen to think that moccasins are the very sweetest of all. British brand Amy & Ivor hand make theirs to order in butter-soft, breathable, ultra gentle leather (from £38)

Bamford bath products are beyond heavenly and their baby range is the ultimate in bathtime chic - the organic baby balm provides a barrier under nappies and extra dry areas and will be a sure fit hit with any new parents and their babas (£20)

Our Muslin Blankets make wonderful gifts as they're multi-purpose and will see a little one through from babyhood well into childhood.  With a rainbow of satin trims to choose from, there is a blanket to suit everyone (£45)

Baby Zara always has a great selection of stylish baby clothes in neutral colour ways and this adorable little silk cotton set is an ideal present for a baby boy or girl (£27.99)

Essential to any new mama's arsenal is a travel changing mat and I particularly like this pretty version from my clever friend Elodie's online shop Red White and Blue (£30)

Handmade by the talented Carol Ridler, these beautiful book ends would add a stylish touch to any nursery and make a generous and original new baby gift (£39.95 a pair)

This teething necklace with its chunky silicone beads is both highly wearable and ultra practical whilst cleverly managing to be a gift for both mama and her baby at once! (£12.95 from Lara and Ollie)

Our limited edition Crib Blankets are hand crocheted especially for us by Syrian ladies seeking refuge in Istanbul as part of the wonderful Knitstanbul initiative set up by my friend Malika Mccosh.  They are beautifully made from lovely, weighty cream wool and available edged in either neon pink, neon green or ochre.  This is a gift that will last through generations to come and each blanket purchased really is helping a Syrian woman make a new life having suffered unimaginable horrors in her homeland.
